Gastrin
Measures gastrin hormone levels to assess stomach acid regulation.
Why This Biomarker Matters
Elevated gastrin indicates gastrinoma or severe acid disease causing ulcers and digestive distress. Early diagnosis prevents complications and guides medical or surgical treatment.
Understanding Your Results
Normal Range
18 – 115 pmol/L
Overview
Gastrin is a hormone produced by stomach cells that stimulates acid secretion for digestion. Elevated fasting gastrin levels may indicate a gastrin-secreting tumor (gastrinoma), severe acid reflux disease, or atrophic gastritis. This test requires fasting and is often combined with a stomach acid pH test for accurate interpretation. Elevated gastrin causes severe ulcers and digestive symptoms. Diagnosis enables targeted treatment to control acid production.
