Lactate dehydrogenase 2
Measures LDH-2 isoenzyme activity to assess heart and red blood cell health.
Why This Biomarker Matters
Elevated LDH-2 indicates heart damage, anemia, or kidney disease; elevated levels during chest pain suggest heart attack and guide urgent cardiac care.

Overview
Lactate dehydrogenase 2 (LDH-2) is one of five isoenzymes of LDH, an enzyme found in most body tissues. LDH-2 is particularly abundant in the heart and red blood cells. This test measures LDH-2 levels and is used to assess heart and red blood cell damage. Elevated LDH-2 can indicate heart attack, hemolytic anemia (breakdown of red blood cells), or kidney disease. The pattern of LDH isoenzyme elevation helps pinpoint which tissue is damaged—for example, a "flipped" LDH-1/LDH-2 ratio is classic for recent heart attack. This test is part of cardiac injury evaluation.
