Triacylglycerol lipase
Measures lipase enzyme levels in serum or plasma to detect pancreatic or metabolic disorders.
Why This Biomarker Matters
Abnormal urine lipase may indicate pancreatic disease, kidney dysfunction, or metabolic problems. This specialized test is rarely used and requires clinical context for interpretation.
Overview
Lipase is an enzyme that breaks down fats in food. While most lipase testing measures this enzyme in blood, urine lipase is occasionally measured for research or specialized diagnostic purposes. Elevated urine lipase can indicate pancreatic disease, kidney problems, or other metabolic disorders. This test is uncommon in routine clinical practice but may be ordered when specific pancreatic or metabolic conditions are suspected. Interpretation requires comparison with blood lipase and other clinical findings.
