This test detects and quantifies IgE antibodies against white alder pollen, a tree allergen common in specific geographic regions. People allergic to white alder pollen experience seasonal allergic rhinitis symptoms—sneezing, nasal congestion, and itchy or watery eyes—typically during the tree's pollination season. The quantitative nature of this test (measuring the amount of antibodies, not just presence) helps assess the severity of your allergic response.
Cholate is a bile acid produced by your liver that helps digest fats and absorb fat-soluble vitamins. Blood levels of cholate are normally very low because it's efficiently recycled between your liver and intestines. Elevated cholate levels may indicate liver disease, bile duct obstruction, or problems with bile acid metabolism. This specialized test is typically ordered when liver or digestive problems are suspected and helps identify specific metabolic or liver dysfunction.
Deoxycholate is a secondary bile acid formed when intestinal bacteria modify primary bile acids. It plays an important role in fat digestion and nutrient absorption. Blood levels are normally very low as these compounds work primarily in the intestines. Abnormal deoxycholate levels may indicate changes in gut bacteria, liver disease, or bile acid metabolism disorders. This specialized test provides insight into digestive function and liver health when specific bile acid abnormalities are suspected.
