IgE
Measures total IgE antibodies, which increase in allergic and parasitic conditions.
Why This Biomarker Matters
Elevated IgE suggests an allergic or parasitic condition; identifying this helps guide diagnosis and treatment of allergies, asthma, or other immune-related symptoms.
Overview
IgE is an antibody produced by your immune system in response to allergens and parasitic infections. Total IgE testing measures the overall amount of this antibody in your blood. Elevated total IgE can indicate allergies, asthma, eczema, or parasitic infection. However, IgE alone doesn't identify specific allergens—it simply reflects your immune system's allergic response level. This test helps determine if allergic disease is present and can guide further allergen-specific testing. It's useful for screening people with unexplained itching, hives, respiratory symptoms, or gastrointestinal complaints.
