Why This Biomarker Matters

Anti-CCP antibodies are highly specific for rheumatoid arthritis and predict joint damage. Early detection allows for early treatment to prevent permanent joint destruction.

Overview

Cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibodies are proteins your immune system produces against specific components found in inflamed joints. This test detects these antibodies in blood or body fluid. Anti-CCP antibodies are highly specific for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and can be present years before symptoms develop. A positive result suggests an increased risk of developing RA or indicates existing rheumatoid arthritis. This test is valuable for early diagnosis and predicting disease severity, enabling earlier treatment to prevent joint damage.
