Cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibodies are highly specific markers for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), an autoimmune condition causing joint inflammation. Unlike the older rheumatoid factor test, anti-CCP antibodies are present in early RA and predict disease progression and severity. A positive result strongly indicates RA, even before symptoms fully develop, making this test valuable for early diagnosis. Anti-CCP antibodies also appear years before symptoms, aiding in risk identification. This test guides treatment decisions and prognosis assessment.
Cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibodies are proteins your immune system produces against specific components found in inflamed joints. This test detects these antibodies in blood or body fluid. Anti-CCP antibodies are highly specific for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and can be present years before symptoms develop. A positive result suggests an increased risk of developing RA or indicates existing rheumatoid arthritis. This test is valuable for early diagnosis and predicting disease severity, enabling earlier treatment to prevent joint damage.
